Post subject:  I don't know, i'm frustrated
my engine smokes a bit at startup. it's been raining alot over here in los angeles so i think it may be the cold weather, but it's like a huge amonunt of smoke. we haven't had a clear day in awhile so when it gets clear i'll see if it still smokes....

but when i warm up the car it smokes massivly, but after about 5 mins it calms down and doesn't smoke as much...

what can it be???

it's white smoke and doesn't smell like anything, i stuck my hand over the 2 1/2" exhaust pipe and i got water shot onto my hand.

for the love of gawd don't let it be the head gasket, and if it is, how can i check????

If you think its a headgasket then check your water level in the radiator every now and then.

The bigger the exhaust pipe the more condensation, the more condensation the more steam at startup until its all boiled off. When you say huge, well, thats a relative term but I get plenty of white smoke out the tailpipe on a cold day, including water dripping out the tailpipe.

On most cars isnt condensation supposed to come out of the exhaust pipe? I see alot of cars with water dripping out of the exhaust. Im not sure what causes this but im pretty sure its normal, i think it might have something to do with the cat...yes/no?

He is being serious however. When I got my Lancer, it spewed all kinds of "white smoke" for the first minute or two (or longer) as steam. Also is your heat riser working? I was told this can cause more white smoke than "normal" if its not working and letting heat get to the intake.

Water is a by-product of combustion. Thats why you see steam on cold mornings.

Yea, but it is actually "water vapor." True steam is invisible.

it has to be something about humidity. when cold and damp here my slant condensates a lot and for the first 5 minutes it blows vapor and my duals drip like hell. dennis, I just couldn't help laughin hard enough to wet my pants over your posts. :lol: may be steam coming outta my system? :wink:

Juan, I believe that you've lost antimatter containment in your slant and your nacells are leaking... That would explain the steam and dripping...

I did turns out that it has "the exhaust floo" very similar to diarrea but colour is diffrent.
