Well, in spite of a couple of weeks of running great, my grandson's 73 Dart /6 (1bbl Holley) now fails to start. Just a quick look at the engine shows me that there is a lot of gas on the outside of the carb at the base where it meets the manifold. My first thought is a stuck float. Am I on the right track? Just for grins, I gave it a short of starting fluid and no go. |

Sounds right, either that or the little inlet valve the float closes is dirty or shot. sometimes cleaning that will work. |

Thanks for the reassurance! Tightened up all float bowl screws just a tad. Happened to hit the fuel line near the carb, and it moved easily. Aha...tighted that up and hit the bowl a few times appropriately, and although it tried to fire, it wouldn't. Pulled the plugs and of course they were fouled. New plugs, gapped right, inserted and life is good. Car fired right up. Cheap easy fix. |

Nice! I think the float has close to 10:1 ratio to the valve, so it probably had the float way higher than they should be... Hope that was your problem. |
