So my current fuel pump is leaking everywhere. I have wanted to switch to a electric carter rotary pump for a while since the weber carb I run is supposed to appreciate a constant regulated flow. Questions 1) What do I do with the old mechanical pump? Remove and cap the opening? Leave in place with no fuel lines going to it? 2) What should be my primary power wire source? I could use a relay but still need a source that will shut off when the engine is not running. (dont need fuel continuosly pumping during a horrible wreck I am guessing) 3) Where should I mount the new unit? And should I run the lines over the valve cover instead of around the front of the engine like it is now? Regards, Tim |

Is the pump made for pulling or pushing fuel? If it is a puller, I did this last weekend. I just put the pump on the inner fender, and ran the line right over the engine. I just left the old pump, because it was shot anyway. I wired a relay to the coil, and it works ok. Just like a diesel if you leave the car for some time I guess, just turn on the ign for a few seconds before cranking... |

IMHO, the stock mechanical pump is the way to go on carbureted engines. If you are worried about fuel pressure, just get a regulator. Electric will be more trouble than it's worth, and will take a little doing if you want to make it safe (shut off when motor dies). Cheers, Lou |

I agree with Lou, The reason I went with a electric pump was that the lobe on the cam is flat... Get a good regulator. If you want the electric pump, maybe the aspen oil pressure switch is the way to go. |

Ok you have convinced me to stay mechanical. I will add a regulator. Question is do I get the Mater 4844 with emissions or do I get the Master 60577 without. Few dollar difference and a order time difference. Is there any difference between the two? The only emissions on my car were the carb preheat and the extra tube coming off my breather that goes back to the gas tank. |
