Anyone know of a solid state substitute for the electromechanical voltage limiter that powers the temp and fuel gage? I know you can use later limiters, but there must be a modern substitute.

Go to radio shack, and get a 7805 5v regulator. You will have to do a little bit of soldering, but it works. I soldered the legs of the regulator to a bit of wire, and soldier the ends of the wire into old tinned plug bits. Heatshrinked the whole thing, and called it done.

I also ended up having to goof around with the calibration wheel on the back of the gas gauge afterwords. Evidently, when they set it at the factory, my old style regulator gave a different output.

Mopar Action put together a photo-illustrated article on exactly how to do this using the 7805 regulator chip some years ago. It's floating around on the web, or I may have an electronic copy of the article around here...somewhere...poke me with a sharp stick if you need me to dig it up.

Thanks guys. After some searching, I found the Mopar Action article, and it appears that the link above is just that article. It originally appeared in the August 2000 issue in an article titled "Gage Rage". I also was digging through my files, and found a photocopy of an article I copied years ago from Mopar Muscle. It was titled "Gauging Your Limitations", and appeared in November 1992. Interesting difference is that the 1992 article calls for an in-line 270 ohm resistor, and the later article doesn't. I think I will try the set up with the resistor.
