| Post subject: | POLL: '62-'66 A-body upgraded engine mount system |
I've just been talking to Schumacher about the possibility of an upgraded engine mount system for the '62-'66 Valiant, Lancer, Dart and Barracuda cars (including Australian Valiants and Utes of these years) equipped with slant-6 engines. He's interested in designing and producing such a setup, and with this poll I'm gauging the interest level. The system would replace the willowy biscuit-type mounts with the much stronger and better '73-up Mopar spool-type mounts. The spool type mounts allow much less engine "shift 'n' drift" and shake, while still isolating engine vibration so it doesn't shake you off the driver's seat. Various mount materials (rubber, hard urethane, soft urethane) are available. The conversion package would probably cost around $150, same as Schumacher's other mount kits, and quality would be similarly high. So... |

I would definitely try a set in poly. If it worked out well, I'd be after 2 more sets. Lou |

I really like the idea of Mitymounts although they are a bit pricey especially once you ship them down this end ofthe world. http://www.mitymounts.com/howtheywork.htm Is anyone running these? |

The Mitymount idea is sort of a halfway attempt at getting some of the benefits of the spool-type mount without fabricating new brackets. Note that Mitymounts are not available for the applications contemplated with this particular question. |

I think the mitymounts would be almost the same as the stock ones on my 84 van. they have little "tabs" on their sides that lock them if they stretch too much... I guess I would be interested in those Shumacker mounts if I had a car they would fit, Good idea! |

I would be in for one set - I am putting a 65 kmember in my 61 currently - I got some used mounts but would like stronger parts. |

Change to the 62-66 K-frame and all the mating suspension parts are much easer to get, you also get rid of that frame mounted, cast iron steering box with a "rag" coupler. DD |

I would probably be a player for this. The one caveat is if I end up getting the engine and bay completed prior to manufacturing, I might be tempted to drop the engine back in. In any event, it probably wouldn't be too much of a difficult thing to jack up the engine and replace the old mounts, would it? In the meantime, where are people getting motor mounts for a 64 /6? |

DD balljoint - Then the 61 strut rod won't fit the new LCA ... So I just got a complete 65 setup and did a full suspension rebuild and disk conversion on the bench. Currently swapping the entire rebuilt front suspension into the car. I bought a rebuild kit for the coupler - I did not know I could just cram a new shop rag into it as a rebuild. |
