Seeking advice with regards to using a Demon Jr. 525 4 barrel carb for my 225. I am required to pass a tailpipe idle and loaded emission test. No visual inspection required. The engine is stock except for a Clifford intake and headers. Any thoughts? |

The 525cfm should be waaaay too big unless you've had extensive head work done to take advantage of the increase airflow. Usually a Holley 390cfm works best. Dan |

Seconded (except for that part about the Holley 390 - Go with a BBD) D/W |

I thought there was someone on here running a carter 500cfm on a stock-ish motor... could be mistaken though. |

Even if they were, would that make it work well?D/W |

To invoke some words of wisdom first uttered many years ago by our very own Doctor Dodge: "What are we going to do with this 'full-race street engine'? If the answer is 'Never pass the smog check', you're on the right track. |

Dan, you're saying put on a Carter BBD? If so, what size? Just FYI, you're the first one I've ever heard say don't go with the Holley. Dan |

He's not saying it, I am. If a thousand people told you to jump off a cliff, would you do it? D/W |

Quote: He's not saying it, I am. Whoops. My bad. Sorry, Dennis.Quote: If a thousand people told you to jump off a cliff, would you do it? Huh? If you're saying that since a thousand people said put on the Holley I would do it, you're wrong. On 3 different boards, countless people recommended that carb. Like I said, you're the first to disagree. I said something to that effect, and then asked why? If that's not a sign of intelligent research, I don't know what is. I have not purchased a carb as of yet. I was planning on the Holley since that's all anyone has said. However, if you recommend something different, I'd like to compare your reasons with the others and make my own decision. If I screw up, it's only my fault. But to answer your question, no, if a thousand people told me to jump off a cliff, I would not. At least, not without a parachute, bungee cord, jet pack or some other anti-splat device I'm not trying to start an argument, just asked a simple (I thought) question, and I got a strange (I thought) answer. Making a cogent carb recommendation is impossible without knowing how you intend to use this car. Grocery getter, highway flyer, mileage maker, street/strip? And, which state's emission inspection do you need to pass? About all we can do without this info is tell you what won't make you smile. |

OK, I'll bite: Where are we finding three different boards where people are knowledgeable enough specifically about slant-6 engines to make a recommendation that's more than just hot air?

Dennis, Dan. My problem with the BBD, is in finding a good one. Used is almost impossible, and reman is a crap shoot. What do you guys think about a 350 holly 2bbl or the holley/weber 2bbl. Either on a supper six manifold or a Offie, with the 2bbl plate? |

What if all the others were just parroting what they heard, just like you did? It's definitely a debatable issue, and I'm not saying the Holley assertion is dead wrong, necessarily (although it is pretty well-known here that I think Holleys are crap for street use I just think echoing what one hears without the disclaimer that one has not actually themself tried it leads to hype and the BS bandwagon. Thanks for the responses. My main usage for the car will be occasional trips around town. I live in Phoenix AZ. The smog requirements I believe are similar to California emissions. What about a Weber 2barrel carb? I haven't had much success with Holleys through the years. Too much tinkering is required in my opinion. If I was to rebuild the 225, what recommendations would you have for pistons, cam etc. to give the car more power for streetlight to streetlight acceleration. I don't have any plans to take it to the raceway or anything like that. Just would like to have some fun around town. I look forward to your responses. Also, I have a three speed tranny now but would like to switch to an auto. Would a 904 work and what type of modifications would I need to make to the car or crossmember etc.? |

Do you just gotta have an auto? If not, I'd say go with a 4-speed! (is it a floor shift?) That's one cool car If I was to rebuild the 225, what recommendations would you have for pistons, cam etc. to give the car more power for streetlight to streetlight acceleration.
