Aaron and I struggled for a while today, but I think we finally got the shift linkage and most of the throttle linkage figured out and installed. Bear in mind that we did not do the world's best job of labeling ALL items as they were removed, nor did we take near enough photos while dismantling his "Dartster" two years ago.

To compound the problem, I think we got mixed together parts from his '74 Dart Sport, our '76 Duster parts car, and some Super Six (with Carter BBD) salvaged parts. Here are a few parts we could not decide where they go, or even if we need them or not.

What is this silver condenser-looking thing and where does it go?

A few miscellaneous mystery parts.

1) We have a similar vacuum fitting in the intake manifold, but it only has three "ports", not four like this one.
2) I believe the upper left item mounts to the transmission and holds up one end of the shift linkage cross piece. The confusing thing is we aready have a support mounted there, but it is in a different location about 3 inches away from where this one mounts.
3) We tied the two other items together when we removed them. The small one looks suspiciously like the rear rod to the shift lever on the transmission. I can't seem to determine where the bracket goes.

Anyone know?

Jerry

The silver condenser looking thing is just that. It mounts to the ignition coil. the red wire connects to the coil positive terminal. The tang on the can goes under one of the coil mounting bolts. The purpose of this condenser is radio noise supression.

1) The vacuum fitting in the picture with the fat nipple out the top is used with power brakes.

2) That is a bracket for transmission shifter linkage as you thought. There are different styles and slightly different mounting locations. Maybe someone else here can further identify.

3) Rod does look like for transmission shifter.

4) Last item is a bit of a mystery. Can you get a different vew with better lighting? Hmmm.... does it have two big "bolt" holes and a smaller hole in that little pointed projection to the left? AC mounting bracket? Near hole bolts to hole in side of intake manifold below carburetor, above EGR valve? Other end to AC pump? Little hole to connect throttle return spring for Carter BBD 2v carburetor?

Oh yea, after I just gave you all the clues as to what it was!!! 8)

Pretty good guess on my part for never owning a car new enough to have one of those.

Thanks, gentlemen. That takes care of those items.

I'll keep the vacuum fitting, in case we decide to add power brakes someday.

We have the shift linkage mocked up with another support mounted in a different location, and it seems to work just fine. We're waiting until next week to bolt it up tight, because we ordered new grommets for all the pivot points in the linkage. They're still available from the dealer. :)
I think the car we relieved of its Super Six was a '78 Volare, so that seems to jive with what you said, Dan.

We apparently have all the shift linkage accounted for in the mock-up, so the extra bar will go into a box.

We have the throttle linkage mocked-up with what I thought is the return spring bracket off the salvaged Super Six. It is somewhat a curved banana-shaped bracket that is held with a single bolt over the center of the EGR valve. Is this, perhaps, the wrong bracket for a Carter BBD? It seems to fit OK.

I'll try to post some more pics of the things we have discussed.
Thanks, again.
Jerry

Yep, that "bananna bracket" is the correct one for your application. If you try that mystery bracket in your picture, bolted to the intake with the same one bolt, the little hole for the spring should be in about the same place as your bananna bracket.

Craig,
Would the same "banana" bracket have been used in our stock 1BBL Holley 1945 application? I can't imagine how I could have wound up with two 2BBL brackets.

I could kick myself for being so lax about taking good notes and pictures when we started this project two years ago. Since we never considered it taking this long, we thought everything would stay fresh on our minds.

No, the 1bbl uses a completely different bracket (you photographed it for us in the last batch, remember?) that is held in a completely different place by the choke thermostat mounting bolt.
