Car: 1975 Dart with 225 /6 and original 1 bbl carb. About 54,000 miles.

Tried to bring my car out of winter storage earlier tonight, and couldn't get it running. Last time I ran the car was on an unseasonably warm day in December, so it's been about 3 months. Before starting the car, I checked oil, trans, and coolant levels...everything looks A-OK. Checked all hoses & wires, spark plugs, etc and everything seems to be in place. Did a visual inspection around/under the car, no fluids or anything else unusual. Gas tank is a little over 50% full.

Pumped the gas once, turned the key. Ignition turns for about 5 seconds, and then it fires and we're running, but really rough. Engine only runs for about 10 more seconds, then peters out completely. Can't get it to restart, ignition is working fine but engine won't fire. I only hit the gas pedal once, so I pretty much ruled out a flooded engine.

Not sure it's relevant, but it's still pretty cold here in WI, about 25 degrees when I was working on the car.

What are some other things I should be checking here? Fuel lines have some kind of blockage maybe? Things on the carb itself? As you may have gathered, I'm kind of new to the whole "taking care of my own car" thing but I love my Dart and I want to do right by her!

Sounds like the choke isn't closing. Take off the air cleaner lid and check. Open the throttle, push the choke plate closed, release the throttle, then without touching the gas pedal see if it'll start.

this worked with mine spray some carb cleaner in your carb and there you go and go get that carb rebuilt...

It does not sound like it ran long enough to pump fuel up to the carburetor. The fuel evaporates out of mine after sitting a short while.
Pour a little fuel down that angled tube sticking up at an angle inside the top of the carburetor where the choke blade is. This will put fuel directly in the bowl. Do not over do it, it's easy to pour too much fuel in there.

This trick works on mine after winter storage, it fires right up on the first crank. No extended cranking to pump fuel up to the carb and burn out the starter.

Update on the sleeping slant:

1. Removed the air cleaner lid, sprayed some carb & choke cleaner down the throat and around choke hinges
2. Filled a styrofoam cup partway up with gasoline (note to self: styrofoam dissolves when introduced to gas!) and poured a little gas directly into the bowl
3. Held the choke at wide open position with my finger, the wife turned the key, and within 5 seconds we were running! :D

Let the car run for about 20 mins tonight...it took about a minute before we really settled into a smooth idle. Think I added too much gas, it was belching white smoke like it was on fire for the first 5 minutes! By the time I killed the motor, she was purring like she did in November when she went into storage.

As soon as I have trouble like yours,I install manual a choke.I know it sounds rediculous,but I always know where MY choke's at!!
