What year engine are you working on? What, if anything, has been done to the crankshaft?

I would have to add, what undersize (if any) have the rod journals been ground to and are the journals damaged? Because if the rod journal is wiped, you are going to either have to regrind or replace the crank. Dont bother picking up any bearings until (or unless) you know this.

Good P/N info -- remember, the forged/cast crank changeover was in midyear '76.

I would assume he would want to get a forged crankshaft in the event of damage? Or is it a matter of a cast crankshaft fitting a later block?

The forged crank cannot be installed in the cast crank block. The block, crank, and rods are unique to each other.
