| Post subject: | Oil presure |
I recently built a 225. Put it in my valiant it started but it would not build oil pressure. I changed pumps, did not help so I pulled the engine to check the bearnings. When I measured them it seems they ground my crank so the mains are .010 under and my rod journals to .020 under. I have .010 over bearings on all the journals. First is this a normal grind on the crank? And this is probably my pressure problem right? Please help Greg |

well naturally you used Plastigage on all your journals, before buttoning your engine up, rather than slapping everything together right |

OK, well I guess it's a good thing because if the rebuilder had left any of the journals standard, the crank would have been locked. Or worse you could have spun a bearing. Plastigage takes a little longer to do but it is well worth the extra time. Crank rebuilders generally don't undersize a crank more than is necessary. The rod journals were probably undersized once before. You may be able to get the journals spray welded to bring them back to standard but for a stock engine you will do fine with the grind the way it is. Are any of your cylinders oversize? |
