not by chance the new aftermarket fuel pump? I guess you'd hear that at idle as well as under throttle. =(
I was just looking for a "don't worry" solution

Fired up my new 225 aluminum slant this week. Got a nice Dutra dual exhaust system installed. 500 edelbrock carb. Offy aluminum intake. Idles good but upon acceleration I`m getting a knocking noise from the engine and it sounds like its close to the #1 or #2 cylinder. 35 psi oil pressure. I know this is brief but I have all new parts inside and out. I wonder if the lifters would knock like this if they are out of adjustment? It does not knock when idleing maybe its the timing? Who knows???? |

Need more info on the "knock" sound. Can you compare it to something in tone and volume? Spark advance and valves -- no. Those don't really make "knocking" sounds at idle. |

The cam setup's the same in the aluminum and iron blocks; no real systematic walking issues. One question for Lancergt: Which way round did you install the conrods? Oil hole pointing towards...? |

Connecting rod oil holes are pointed away from the cam. (Pointing toward the drivers side). Almost sounds like a rod knocking if that helps anyone. Does not sound like a valve to me. It is coming from down in the belly of the beast. |

I had a tork come lose one time on me,and it sounded like a rod knocking. It also was there when I hit the gas but not there at idle.. |

Good, that's how they're meant to be in the aluminum engine. It does sound as though you're looking at some fairly large reworking, I'm afraid...

Could a bad harmonic balancer produce a knock? Seems odd that the knock only happens with an increase in speed. Just a thought. |

No, there's really no way the harmonic balancer can go bad that could cause a knock. But you may want to recheck your flywheel (or flex plate) attachment to make sure it's correct. |

That depends... I had a 440 that developed a horrific knock within a few minutes of first-start one time. I was ready to tear into her again but it turned out to be simple: I'd used an aftermarket fluid-type damper, and the bolts were *just* long enough to rub against the timing chain cover. The knock happenening with an increase in speed could mean many things, though. It could be a connecting rod that only gets loud when the centrifugal forces get high with increasing speed. |
