Post subject:  1bbl carb on 2 bbl manfold, adapter available

I just trying to get it running with the parts i have now. 1 bbl holly
and 2 bbl manifold. I think i can make a adapter out of metal plate
or aluminum. Does mr gasket have an adapter ready made?
Does anyone know if there is adapter for 1bbl holley carb to mount
on 2bbl manifold?

Thanks guys.

you can buy a 2 bbl carb on a 1 bbl mani adapter and bolt it backwards. This' the only useful use of those adaptors, since bolting a 2 barrels on a 1 barrel manifold is useless.

I don't know the size of your carb bolt pattern but here is an adapter that I have used before to convert 1bbl to 2bbl. It will go either way. The stud holes are oblong to accept different size carbs.
The single barrel stud spacing is 2" on centers and the 2bbl spacing is 3-1/2" x 2" on centers. These adapters are used frequently on 40's-50's flathead Dodge/Ply 6 motors to convert stock 1 bbl intakes to accept dual 2 bbl progressive carbs. The Carter/Weber 2 bbl carb below would work as well on the /6 motor. Being progressive, it would probably offer increased milage and performance too. It has an electric choke .

argentina slantsixer- just curious whyyou say bolting the 2 bl carb
on a one bl manifold is useless- Haven't tried it but curious what the problem
is.

I made my own adapters (x2) on my offy intake as it came with 2xRochestor v8 carbs on it which were too big and in poor condition. I roughed out adapter plates from aluminium plate and then had a machine shop clean up the edges and the intake hole. I countersunk the holes for the bolts so they are reasonably flush and do not interfere with the vacuum pipe or idle mixture screw. I looked at the aftermarket ones but they would not have provided enough bonnet/hood clearance to run standard air cleaners on my car.
Heres a closup of one I made on my car.

Hey Clifford performance sells one... But why? I still don't understand why you want to go backwards?

Ricki, nice work! that's a way to go also... you can get a thick 1/2" aluminium plate and drill it to match your manifold.

bolting a 2 barrel ontop a 1 barrel manifold is useless 'cuz your carb will be providing gas for nearly twice as much airflow as your manifold will see. That would be lots of gas for less air, too rich, black plugs, no power improvement at all (unless your previous setup was really screwed up)

Makapipi, golembieski has a good point, why go backwards?

Is the 1bbl you have currently on your car? If not is it compatible (ie rod vs cable setup). If the 1bbl carb you have is different it may be easier to hunt around for a suitable 2bbl carb and use it. (search this site for 2bbl upgrades, supersixes etc, there is a lot of information available). An adapter with postage to hawaii might cost more than a 2bbl from a local junkyard?

In my case I upgraded from one 1bbl to two of them so I still gained power. I also have the rod linkage setup and was easier (for me) to use offy's accelerator linkage kit than convert to something else. If I had a single 2 bbl intake I would not choke it back down to use a 1 bbl carb.

Post subject:  thanks for the info

All right, sounds good, thanks for sharing your experience
and knowledge. I think i will try to find a 2bbl carb that will
hook up to my linkage and accel cable
