Post subject:  Swapping from a 904 to a 727

I chipped a tooth off of the second gear of my 904 last week. I have a 400+ hp 360 that I am eventually going to put in. I ordered a beefy 727 from Mancini racing. Does anyone know what I need to do to bolt the 727 up to the slant six until I can get the rest of the money to do the engine swap? This is in a 69 Dodge Dart 4 dr. I have already had the rearend swapped from a 7 1/4 to an 8 3/4. Do I need to do anything to the drive shaft? What type of converter, etc. would I need for this?

A 727 or 904 trans for a V-8 will not fit a slant six engine, and a slant six trans will not fit a V-8. The bolt pattern is different. There is an adapter available (from AndyF) to use the V-8 trans with the slant, but the cost is about $400.

You could always look for the van/truck /6 727 with the v8 tranny, and adapter...

Do all vans/trucks have the 727 trans that will work with the slant 6 motors? I'm having trouble finding a 904 in my area and there are more /6 trucks around than cars.

Most trucks and vans I have seen have the 727, but the older ones use the sb. v8 trans, and an adapter on a slant...
So if you find one of those, you can use your good tranny on the slant too.
Just get a neutral balance converter, and remember the adapter on the crank too!
