I started out looking for some round high-temperature rubber gaskets for the burners on the gas stove in the kitchen, 'cause the originals are cooked. They're not O-rings, per se, 'cause that term seems reserved for circular gaskets that have the same width as height in cross section (round, square, X-shaped cross section, etc). The kind I need is about 1/8" thick, with an inner diameter of about 2-3/4" and an outer diameter of about 3-1/2". I'm not sure there's a name for those, and I'm also not sure where to get 'em. No luck so far.

Dan, try www.smallparts.com. Odd size prototype O-rings are often made in industry by splicing stock of the right material (remember to check chemical compatibility) with superglue.

Thanks, Slant. That was my first stop, actually. Small Parts Inc. rocks. But, I didn't find anything but round- and square-cross-section O-rings there.

What does the cross section look like? Is it ovoid?

Try B.O.S.S. in Hamilton. They may be able to get you a piece of 1/8" silicone rubber sheet that you can cut to the proper shape. They also hodge podge together seal kits for hydraulic cylinders and may be able to get you something dimensionally similar out of their extensive inventory. Or I guess you could look up Eclipse Thermal in 'Sauga---a former client that mfrs and assembles natural gas burners for process equipment. The Thomas register online and the Fraser directory come to mind. Or, as a last (first?) resort, try the mfr or reg'd dealer of the stove itself.

I did some more careful measurements. The gasket is 2mm thick, 90mm OD and 70mm ID. The cross section is a plain ol' rectangle, 2mm x 10mm. Thanks for the pointer to www.bossinc.com , I've sent them some e-mail. We'll see what comes of it.
