Hi, This is my first post on this forum and its not a pleasant one...I have a nice one owner 1966 valiant with a slant six, the motor is a bit tired but doesnt blow smoke, Well the car has been in storage for a year, my problem is I got it running today and it needed lots and lots of water in the radiator....strange, and now there is water in the oil |

Was there only water in the cooling system, or antifreeze? When you drained the oil, did water come out, or is it just condensation? It is possible, if there was just plain water in the cooling system, that the head gasket rusted through. If plain water, is there any chance it may have froze, and cracked the head or block? |

thanks charrlie S, no chance of the water in the block freezing, not cold enough around here |

GM sealant will not work on Mopars. Compatability issues. Any cooling system should have antifreeze or at the very leasy a corrosion inhibitor, NEVER just plain water. |

Oooh, I don't like the sound of an engine being without antifreeze for any length of time- antifreeze is more important for CORROSION protection than freezing protection in my part of the country. I'll bet that headgasket is *gone* around all the coolant passages. Its also possible (remotely) that a water jacket corroded all the way through to oil, too |

I don't know if anyone else has ever noticed, but on my 1975 Slant 6 engine, one of the bolt holes for the timing chain cover bolt is drilled into the water jacket at the front of the engine. I think this could possibly leak coolant to the outside or even into the crankcase. |
