how do i check the fluid in my universal joint?

i have a 225 7 1/4 rear end.

also, if i need to re fill it, what is the procedure, can you recommend a lubricant?

The fluid level in the rear end, when you remove the drain plug (when facing the rear from back of car, on the right side of the cover, on a 7 1/4 rear) should be just to the bottom of the plug when car is on a level surface.

Standard 80w90 weight gear oil should be fine.
