Hey all,

So I am looking at my block wondering if there is any way to clean it without hot-tanking since I'm not planning on disturbing the crank or any of the main bearings. Should I try degreaser and pressure washing? Or not worry about it? Or run engine soup concoction through it once installed?

What tricks have you guys used?

How dirty is it inside? Post some pics, or at least a description. Your best option may be "do nothing".

Dirty would be just black and greasy insides. Its just a layer of crud. I dont have any pics handy unforntunately. I cleaned out the bottom fo the oil pan when I swapped it over. I just wanted to be sure short of hot-tanking it that I didn't need to do anything more to it. I figured an oil change every 1000 miles for a while would be the best.

:?: Is this an in-frame youre doing?

Main bearings arent that expensive, if you hot-tank the block and crank, and plastigage the bearings you should be fine, it's not all that bad...

nah its a time-frame issue. I'm moving next week ;-) I just ended up power washing it, and its actually in great shape. no worries. pulled the cam just so I knew how to do it, lubed it, degreed it for practice -- they have a cam wheel and dial indicator so why not try?! I'll take some pics tomorrow.
