Post subject:  Overpriced parts on Ebay again
I purchased a few small items from Ebay seller CJMP (Central Jersey Motor Parts) a few years ago. Just today I stumbled upon some of his listings for Mopar parts and they have outrageous prices on them. Stuff like this reallly turns me off. What are these people thinking? Don't they have a conscious? I guess it's nice that these NOS parts are still available but is there any logical reason for the crazy prices?

The NOS prices never really have bothered me much. What does torque me up pretty good are clods that go out and try to rob everything they can off some car languishing in one of the few old-school junkyards left, then trying to peddle them for big $$$. I refuse to pay NOS prices for some snatch-and-grab used part that some green-behind-the-gills wise-ass punk hopes to make a killing on.

OH yes! I've watched that phenomea many times on ebay. I just sold an item on Ebay and two people got in the bidding war the first day over the item. There were other identical items as mine that had no bids and they could have bought for less than half of what they bid mine up to.

I just found another one of those sellers on Ebay with super high prices.

I would not mind having this AC blower motor for a spare, but not at this price.

Now this one's sad to see. Valley Vintage used to be reasonably priced, not long ago. This particular example is especially pathetic because this blower motor is still very much available for between $30 and $50 in the aftermarket.

(Just for kicks, I also looked up the '65-'72 factory-air blower motor. It's still available, too.)

There is a sucker someplace that will buy that stuff. I read on Moparts I think that NOS pieces are not as good quality wise as what was used in cars when they where new. That, plus setting on a shelf someplace for years...not what I'd want on my car.

This doesn't make any sense. NOS means "New Old Stock". In our case, it means original Chrysler Mopar parts that were made around the same time as our cars, and just never happened to sell when there were a lot of our cars in daily service. A NOS 1962 oil pump, for instance, is one that happened never to be purchased at a Chrysler dealer in 1962...or 1963...or 1964...or 1970...or 1988...etc.

NORS = New Old Replacement Stock, which means aftermarket parts that were made around the same time as our cars and never bought.

And I always thought NORS meant "New old RUSTY stock". Having dabbled in antique tractors and gas engines this is often true.

I've often read and heard that NOS parts were sometimes "seconds" that didn't pass muster to make it to the assembly line. Also, that they were often made years after their applicable model year was over and were not made to the same quality standards as the original part.

I have often bought or ordered parts that were packaged as genuine original parts, but had obvious visual differences. The genuine replacement part due to supplier changes is not always the same pedigreed part sitting in the bins on the assembly lines, much more so years after the carline has changed.

The only way I would buy an NOS piece is if I could look at it first, never over the Internet. To me, the only reason for NOS is a high dollar numbers matching restoration. Not much chance of me ever doing that. :shock:

I have also seen many times that lots of NOS parts were seconds dumped into the parts system. Again, it is buyer beware. :shock:
