| Post subject: | headliner install |
I have a 1964 Dart. Has anyone ever installed a headliner themselves in this or a similar car? I have received quotes for around $450 for installation (I already have the headliner, so the quote is for labor only). This sounds high to me. Is it even worth trying to install it myself, or is it too difficult/specialized of a task? I have an article on installing a headliner in one of my magazines, and I intend to research it on web, also. Does anyone have any experience/advice? Thanks. |

Someone should be able to do it for $250 or less installed. I had mine done in Pasadena for $140 installed in 1998. Lou |

It took me less than a day to install mine and while it's not my favorite job, and you need to take care, it's not brain surgery either. If it takes a professional 6 hours, figure out how much you want to pay him per hour. |

I did mine in my 63 valiant. It was sort of a pain, but if I had to do it again I would be better at it. The first one is the hardest. But it is doable. $450 could be better spent on the car. John |

I did mine and I though it was fairly easy. Took me a few hours but mostly it was just trimming the headliner carefully to fit and using a very blunt three inch putty knife to get things tight(for obvious reason a sharp putty knife wouldn't be an intelligent idea). |

Thanks for the replies. I found an article (Mopar Muscle Oct. 2002) and I'm going to do it myself. There is also an article online from Hot Rod for anyone who's interested. |

I think that is the article I used as my guide. One tip is to get the wrinkles out of the sleeves before you install. The few places I still have wrinkles are in those spots. John |
