Anyone have any experience with the Offy #5041 dual 1 brl. intake? Is it a hard setup or pretty reliable? The reason I ask is I have 2 stock 1 brl. carbs and thought this might be a good way to go. Buying new carbs can get expensive ya know |

Reasonably easy to install on a '66 or earlier A-body with rod-type throttle linkage. Considerably tougher in a '65-up with cable-type throttle linkage. What're you working on? |

Working on a 74 Swinger. I don't mind having to do a litlle extra tuning to keep it running right. Would look so damn cool too. All the adds I've seen say it comes with an install kit. By the pics it looks like it comes with the linkage to connect the two carbs. |

The install kit is made for the '66 and earlier rod-throttle cars. You could probably modify some of the pieces and make them work, but there will be considerable fabrication and tweaking required to make it work right especially if you have an automatic trans (kickdown linkage will essentially have to be re-engineered ....) |

Hmmm...beginning to sound like a lot of headache for no more gain than a supersix setup or a 4brl. Thanks for the info Dan. |

Oh, I agree with you, twin-ones are super cool. And there can be advantages. But setting 'em up to work right is certainly more work than going with a 2bbl. |

Eastwood sells a tool that is supposed to help you get multiple carb setups calibrated correctly. I've never used it so I don't know how it works. |

That's a Uni-Syn. It works well on sidedraft carbs (SU, Zenith-Stromburg, Weber, Dellorto...) but is not applicable to downdraft carbs as used on the 5041 manifold. |

Why won't it work on the downdraft carbs. I have one of these, that I used on the old Ford flathead multi carb setups. Haven't used it in years.

Simple-- no flat surface for the Uni-Syn to seal against, which is necessary to use this tool. The old-old carbs you used it on probably had an uninterrupted ring shape to the top of the air horn. \6 1bbls have the two towers for the air cleaner retaining bail and sometimes other "obstructions" -- no way to seal the Uni-Syn to the top of the air horn at all, let alone reliably/repeatably, which is also necessary for the tool to work. |
