| Post subject: | 1965 throttle cable |
Does anyone have a source for the early style throttle cables. I need the kind that fits into a round hole with a clip as opposed to the funky square hole with tabs. I want a cable that is long enough to use on a slant so I can't just pilfer one from a v8 car. thanks in advance. |

I am not sure if they are the same or not but when I pulled the cable for my super six swap from a truck it had the round hole with the clip, where as my challenger required a square style so I had to go to a buddy at a motorcycle shop and have my old one adjusted. I think I still have the one from the truck in garage let me see if I can find it and get a length on it for you. and I will see if I can post a digital picture of it. By the way, I dont know if you saw the post I had on Challenged1's tranny swap question but I am gonna measure my z-bar and get the dimensions if you want to check to see if you still have a slant e-body z-bar. |

Use the throttle cable from a 84 Ram Charger, is almost 15cm larger than normal throttle cable from a 70-74 Dusters |

6cyl 1bbl (long, 24") A-body cable w/round metal firewall ferrule is 2899 335 6cyl 2bbl and V8 (short, 18-3/4") A-body cable w/round metal firewall ferrule is 2899 336. Big-block V8 (extra short, 17-9/10") A-body cable w/round metal firewall ferrule is 2899 337. I suppose it's getting to the point where we ought to find NOS or decent used examples of each and get 'em sent to autocables in Australia for reproduction. Anyone? |

Hey Dan, So all years of A-body throttle cables are the same, dependent upon the engine/carb combo? I know my e-body cable has the square firewall attachment ( I assume this would be the same for b-body slants as well?). Do you know if slant trucks have the same cables as a-bodies? I didnt get a chance to measure the spare truck cable I have last night but hopefully I can get to it this weekend. |

I think the last few years of A-bodies might have gotten the cables with the square plastic ferrules instead of the round metal ones. 2899 336 is the one I used when I converted my '65 A-body to 2bbl, and it was a perfect fit. It is also listed for V8 A-body applications in the '72 FPC, so yeah, that's about as far back and about as far forward as needs to be tried to know "one call does it all". Truck cables are much longer than car cables, in general. |
