1986-87 Dodge trucks. These are the nice sand cast aluminum ones, not the two piece welded together model.

Someone else can tell you which cars since I"m not sure.

All 1960-model slant-6 engines had a sandcast or semipermanent-mould cast aluminum 1bbl intake manifold with no provisions for PCV or EGR.

The 1976 Feather Duster and Dart Lite economy models had a sandcast aluminum 1bbl intake manifold with EGR.

2-piece Electron Beam welded aluminum 1bbl and 2bbl intakes with PCV and EGR were introduced late in the 1979 model year. These were problematic (porous welds) and many were replaced under warranty with iron units. Officially, these were discontinued towards the end of 1982 production, but they have been been spotted as late as 1986 production vehicles (as Craig points out). Presumably the later units are less likely to cause problems than the early ones, and it's logical that any of these 2-piece welded-together intakes still in service are no more likely to have fatal problems (e.g., intractable warp at mounting flanges, cracks in hot box) than their iron counterparts.

Dan,
My 87 truck has a nice sand cast aluminum 1 bbl intake. You can't tell it from the cast iron ones except a magnet does not stick to it. I've also seen these sand cast aluminum models on trucks in the salvage yard.

More information.... I need to check but I think the one on my truck has a smaller "hot spot" area similar to the iron manifolds in the 60's. I did not know this until I saw a late model intake on Ebay that showed a bottom view and it did not have the big bulge on the bottom like the late 70's and 80's intakes have. I always thought this had something to do with the fact of the EGR ports using up some of the hot spot but now I don't know.

Description sounds identical to the '76 Feather Duster/Dart Lite intake manifold. I wonder if those got put back into production sometime in the mid '80s, or perhaps—and it wouldn't be the first time—if they were usin' up compatible old parts stocks preparatory to discontinuing the slant altogether.

Haven't seen an aluminum intake with the large hot spot, only the '71-up iron items. Aluminum intakes heat up a lot faster, so I guess the large hot spot wasn't necessary with them.

My 82 D-150 also has the one piece aluminum manifold. The original two piece model had a split develop at the heat riser and it was replaced by the dealer in 1988. At least that is what my uncle said.
