| Post subject: | change of head and running hot |
I put an Offenhauser intake and the four bbl Holley 390 on my 1965 Valiant. I also changed the cylinder head to one I pulled of a 1976 dart. I don't have the carb or the valves adjusted that well yet but, it is running. However, it is running a bit hot. Do you think that this might be because I set the valves a bit "loose"? I set them at more than .022 exhaust and over .012 intake because the car was cold when I was doing this and I figured that the heat would cause it to tighten up? Or do you think that running different spark plugs would help? Thanks |

A lean fuel mix will run hot. It's just my first guess, but check for vacuum leaks and mixture adjustment. I won't say your other ideas are way off, but I don't really know. |

do yourself a favor and readjust the valves hot. cold adjustments just aren't accurate. |

check ignition timing and your vacuum advance. the vacuum advance hose fell off my dist. one time and caused the engine to overheat(read: boiling) from retarded timing. zedpapa |

I would say warped cylinder head and/or bad head gasket. . |
