The 225 cylinder blocks are taller. Look at the front heater hose above the water pump. If it's about 1 1/2" long it's a 170 If it's about 3" long it's a 225 |

My bypass hose isnt 3" long. The best way is to check your engine number, you may have to remove your alternator and the cast bracket to see it, it is stamped on the top surface of the block (the deck) right at the front right corner of the engine. Scrape the area clean, the edge of the headgasket may or may not be blocking the top of the numbers. See if you can find numbers stamped there, and post them here, we will help you decode them. It is remotely possible the deck has been shaved and the numbers are gone. If that is the case, or you just cant see the numbers, there are other ways. We'll be here. |

That number will also tell us if it might be an aluminum 225 slant, many Lancers had them. |

Hose clamps on the previously mentioned hose. If the clamps are like almost right next to each other, its a 170. If you have an inch or two between them it is either a 225 or a 198. The only way a 198 would have found its way into their is if some body swapped it in though. To avoid all of this confusion however, find the appropriate numbers like the other guys mentioned. |
