No matter how many times you rebuild it, change parts, tune, etc it simply always get drowned in mornings!!!, I´m talking about Holley 1920 carb, how hard is to get Carter carb parts in this days? and wich Carter all of you can tell is the best 1bbl I can get? |

I'm waiting for Dennis to chime in.... I usually see that post concerning a Holley 1945 and not so many 1920's... I guess you're gonna be lookin' for a Carter BBS now, SlantSix Dan used to have a good run down on what vehicles got the Carter along with what trucks had a fair choice of 'bigger' 1 barrel carbs...I think (gotta knock the sand outta my noggin'...) Not sure what choices you have south of the border though. good luck on the replacement, I've had my fair share of 1 barrel 'tweakin' too... -D.Idiot |

I went through 2 Carter BBS before wrenching on a Holley 1920 Economaster and my Dart has been purring on it for over two years. I'm not sure this counts since the Economaster version kind of resembles a Carter/Holley hybrid of sorts. All I know is I was having a terrible time getting the fuel air dialed in after a head replacement and once I wrenched on this carb all was well. My 65 Sweptline has a rebuilt Carter BBS with less than 500 miles on it and the accelerator pump is already leaking....... I dunno, I always say go with what works for you. I have a 1920 new in box for manual choke applications on the way for my Sweptline restoration. Of course I also have a Carter BBD, and a 320 CFM Holley 4BBl sitting in waiting also...... |

I've had better success with the holley 1920 than I have had trying several Carter BBS's. So I am making an exception to my rule, at least for the one barrel. I still prefer the Carter overall, specifically the BBD two barrel and the AFB/AVS four barrels and modern copies of them.D/W |

The Holley Economaster 1920 looks just like a Holley 1920 and not at all like a BBS, in whole or in part. If the Economaster you put on doesn't look just like a Holley 1920, then it's something else (a 1945, perhaps), but it's not a 1920.Quote: My 65 Sweptline has a rebuilt Carter BBS with less than 500 miles on it and the accelerator pump is already leaking...
Means the accel pump wasn't properly prepped and assembled.

Ok, sounds like only two people (counting me) got problems with Holley 1920 carb, but my question is still unaswered, I was pretty mad when I posted this topic ´cause I was unnable to reach some "legal" 1/4 Mille racing with a good pot. Also I´m looking right tomorrow for a new carb, never get a Holley again. |

Try a Carter YFA or YF. Their on Ford sixes. I had a YF off of a 300 6cyl. and it ran fine, but that might be to tall for a car. I had it on my D150. Also, you will have to make some kind of connection for the throttle. |

Sorry Dennis Weaver, still angry and misspelling, good amount of money for the winner, after making my carb work again, it only took 2 hours of engine off to get drowned again at start, this su**ks men. |

Very few of the one barrel carbs are what you would call "outstanding". Manufacturers really did'nt spend that much time on 1-barrels because they were simply a 1-barrel carb that was made for economy not for performance. If Holley and Carter had put as much time into their 1-barrels as they did into the Quads we would be a lot better off today. Holley 1945's still suck though! |
