Post subject:  Headers Problem

I recently purchased a set of headers from clifford and was informed they would fit into my stock 71' gold duster. Come to find out the primary header cannot make it past the heat exchange located below my 1 bbl. carb., which actually connects my old exhaust manifold with my existing intake manifold. Do I need to buy a different intake manifold to fix this problem? If so which intake manifold would be a good idea?

Sounds like you may have something incorrect. Any other manifold you get is going to have the same heat exchange (except a Hyperpak).

Do you have the headers switched? You said the "primary". Do you mean the front of the car? Is this two 3 into 1 or a 6 into 1?
If you have 3 into 1, the headrer with the "u" in it is for the back (to go around the starter).

Are you sizing it up with the old exhaust connected? It may seem like it won't fit with the old one on.

Usually any problem with headers is down lower, like with the steering box or the clutch bar. I haven't heard of interference with the intake.

You may want to change the intake while you have it apart. A 2bbl "supersix" would make a nice difference with those headers. I would suggest you don't even bother with a 4 bbl with a stock motor unless you want to do more engine work (cam and head porting/valves). If you have an automatic, you will need to change your kickdown linkage, if you change your intake, even to a 2 bbl.

Do a search on the site for "supersix". There is a lot of info.
