I'm running a 225, Weiand 4 intake, Clifford Headers, MP Cam, MSD, 650 Holley, Ford Valves/ pocket ported. W/904 3500 stall and 8.25 / 4:10 posi. Its in a 63 Dart. With this very well used combo I ran 15:40 with a track temp of 153 deg. (Tulsa gets hot) It's time for a overhaul, after this site I'm thinking 198 rods etc. A little NOS and more cam. What are the big dogs using? Pistons, cam etc. I'm also thinking a s/6 in a 1500 lbs roadster for the HAMB drags would be a killer anyone use one in a altered? |

If you want to build a serious race motor with any amount of juice, throw the 198 rods in the junk and get a set of steel rods. Forged pistons will be in order too. I am running 198 rods and KB hyper 2.2 turbo pistons. I have been spraying a 150 shot, but I am really living on the edge. 198 rods kinda like to bend. Good motor with a 150 shot in a light roadster and the 9's are yours easy. There used to be a Slant roadster down in Georgia or Alabama, but IIRC he put a small block in it. |

Thanks for the replys, I was thinking 12's in the Dart and maybe 10's in a roadster. Custom steel rods and turbo's would be out of my price range at the present time. Aren't the 198 and 225 rods both forgings? And with ARP's and resize enough to handle a 150 shot in a purpose built car. I'm not looking for a street car or a bracket racer something to race at old time drag events. |

Better check the rules for the old time drags. Down here in Florida, it's "NO NITROUS". The promoters say it wan't in much use, back in those days. Blowers and turbos are ok.

Call the Cox Bros and get the NEW rods & pistons You need for your build up. Head gaskets and advice you need. You can run 12's or even 11's on the stock stuff but it may be time to step up. Will |

If you plan to run a bottle then you will need the high buck piston/rod combo. If you go the boosted route 198 rods and the 2.2 turbo piston will last and will save some $$$. We have not had a problem with either and the only time we did it was the tuners(me) fault for leaning it out too far. If you are not going to be running on the ragged edge you can put in a safe tune up and go fo it.... Tom |

The HAMB drags will be mostly flathead V8s and a few stovebolts, right? It would be interesting to see what a healthy slant could do in a field like that. Here's a link to a guy that ran a slant 6 roadster, back when: http://www3.sympatico.ca/big-d/pics.htm Ran in turboed and NA form. |

Lots of good info. The dart I own won Gas coupe class at the HAMB drags last year. The HAMB drags are a gas, almost anything you could think of runs. Real low key and laid back. |
