Post subject:  Embarrasing Super Six ?

I'm getting my Super Six ready to install this weekend, and I can't figure out exactly where the throttle/kickdown bracket mounts. Is it under the exhaust manifold? If so, are the two mounting holes that join the intake and exhaust supposed to go all the way through (mine don't) so that the bracket mounts underneath with a couple of nuts?

I tried the bracket on top of the exhaust, directly underneath the intake, and on top of the intake, but had (minor) interference problems. I can grind the bracket if necessary, but I wanted to mount the bracket correctly the first time around to maintain the kickdown geometry...

Thanks in advance!

Yes.

Sounds like either broken-off bolts or too-short bolts.

Here's a pic of my son's bracket. Don't pay any attention to the curved arm with the slot, it's backwards. This is just to show you the bracket location.

Does that help?

Thanks, Dan, and thanks for the pic, Jerry. From looking at the picture, it seems like the bracket bolts on perpendicular to the bolts that hold the manifolds together. True? If so, I'll have to look at my exhaust manifold when I get home. I don't think it has holes or studs in that location. The exhaust manifold I bought was new (and didn't come with the Super Six set-up), but I thought Super Six exhaust manifolds were the same?

If the holes/studs are missing, guess I'll have to drill and tap some holes. Hopefully, I'm just an idiot and I'm looking at it wrong...

Thanks again!

No. What you're seeing is the bolt holes for the thermostatic air cleaner heat stove. Those bolt holes are in the throttle linkage bracket, but the bracket itself slides onto the vertical bolts that hold the two manifolds together, and is secured thereonto by a pair of nuts.

They are.

Like Dan said, the horizontal bolts you see below the aluminum EGR block-off plate I made are there to mount the air cleaner heat stove (thin sheet metal hood surrounding the exhaust flange where the flexible pre-heater hose hooks up from the bottom of the air cleaner snorkle). If you hold your throttle bracket alongside your manifold, in the same orientation as you see in the pic, it will suddenly become clear. I bought stainless steel bolts long enough to thread through the exhaust manifold and hang down far enough to catch the bracket with some stainless nuts.

Ahhh. Thanks for your patience, guys. I looked over my exhaust manifold again, and have determined that the holes just aren't threaded all the way through. Guess I'll be tapping the remainder. It's the little things that keep delaying my Super Six and Dutra Duals... Appreciate the insight!
