Post subject:  front seal options???

We will be replacing engine in 78 Aspen in the next month, but in the meantime need to do a quick fix on the front seal of the trans. (I think this is what it is called - between engine & trans)... Since we will be taking engine out when we swap we are wanting to wait on the leak & then get new seal/gasket on then... In the meantime can we use a silicone or something to temporarily fix the leak??? Any recommedations??? Thank You Very Much for any advice. We live in Central Missouri if there is anyone out there that lives around us - my son (Mike) is VERY much a MOPAR person & could use the advice...

:)

I personally wouldn't try any of the so called leak stoppers. Maybe others have had good results with them but I'm leery of them. If it isn't dumping fluid just park somewhere you don't mind a oil spot and keep an eye on the fluid level.

I agree if you are only going to be another month.

If it IS really dumping fluid, you arn't going to get it fixed without a new seal anyway. While the torque converter is out, check the snout of the converter. Sometimes they will split a hairline crack and leak. A new seal won't fix that, you'd have to replace the converter, but better to find it sooner than doing it again later.
