I normally try to figure things out on my own, but Im stumped on this one. Im running a stock dist. with a Pertronix and runs great. I have a electric dist. that I figured I throw in there and see if it makes a difference. What I get is a flat spot at idle almost like a miss, and a very rich smelling exhaust. Even moving the timing around doesn't do a thing to help. It does start alot better though.
No I didn't nor will I mess with the carb because it took to long to get dailed in as it is, also with this swap I shouldn't have to!
At present I put the old one back in and will leave it that way till I get this figured out. What could be messing up?

Is it possible the polarity of the distributor leads is reversed? Try switching them.

I replaced the Vac can with the old one, Changed around the springs to different combos, tweeked timing, and basically rebuilt the electric dist. moved it a tooth before and after and still the same problem.
It just has a flatspot at idle like a miss, and revving it up just runs rough like I need a tune up, and smells rich. All is good with tune up as it runs great with the points dist. with a pertronix.
I will say this though, even running rough like it does, when it's cold I don't have the stumble I have with the old dist.
What am I over looking, what can it be?? Thanks

How is the spark plugs color? if black , fuel mixture too rich.
Sometimes too rich fuel mixture will cause missing and rough idle.
After checking plugs, you could try adjusting fuel mix screw.
