Post subject:  Its almost running......but not quite.....idea's??
So, after 18 years under the tree in his Mom's garden, I finally managed to buy my 63 Wagon from the previous owner....having thrown a few $$$ at it, I am now in the position where it won't run....

New parts.......plugs; points; rotor; cap; leads; ballast; coil;

Rebuilt carb, new fuel & air filters...

Timing is spot on, we have spark, but it just won't fire.... :x

It kinda wants to run when you pour a little fuel through the top of the carb, so I am thinking mnaybe blocked/dirty lines?

Any tip's?

When I first got my 64 Valiant (inheritance), the fuel line was completely clogged up......... Had to blow it out from the fuel pump side to the tank.

Fill up the carb with gas and see if it starts. Then see if you actually get fuel flow.

One of my friends has a small portable air tank, thats gonna be the next thing we do!!

Thanks for the tip regarding the carb tho, hadn't thought of that 8)

Try having someone press the accelerator a couple of times while you are looking down the throat of the carb (engine off, not cranking). You should see a strong stream of fuel being pumped into the bottom of the carb throat. If not, then you probably have no fuel getting to carb.

You could have a bad fuel pump as well as clogged lines.

Remember, sitting that long tends to form lots of moisture in the fuel tank, creating rust. Cleaning out the lines may only temporarily solve any "clog" problems.

Sitting that long, gas turns into 4 octane goo that you don´t want in your engine.
Try a hose form the suction side of the fuelpump, to a can of fresh gas, and see if that help :wink:

If it runs then, drain the tank!

Checking for fuel to the carb, as has been suggested, is the best bet. If that isn't the problem:
Are you POSITIVE your timing isn't 180 degrees out? That can make it almost want to run.
