Really detailed, objective and interesting data here (holy crap—an OEM AC filter passed only 0.4 grams of dust over the same test the K&N passed 7.0 grams!) and here ("After only 24 minutes the K&N had accumulated 221gms of dirt but passed 7.0gms. Compared to the AC, the K&N plugged up nearly 3 times faster, passed 18 times more dirt and captured 37% less dirt") and here.

Ooof... I wonder how long its going to take K&N to sue them for something frivolus and bring the site down ;)

Wow, that is a good report. No wonder a mechanic here in Hawaii
stopped using fram and now recommends AC delco.

Had a friend buy one of those new 2 Litre Ford SUV's. Can't remember what they call it. An Escape? The little one. Front wheel drive.
Anyway, he bought a K&N for it. He puts about 40k a year on his business rig. The economy went down. Remarkably lower. Said it dropped about 3mpg.
He put a new OEM filter back on, and his economy went back up. Surface area, probably.

We run a lot of K&N's on Motorcycles, and have found the protection to be less than stellar. The guys who run sand have to sock the K&N, or they pull fine sand into the engine. This tends to be bad. The sock probably negates any flow improvement realized by going to the K&N.

The 99%+ efficiency of the Delco is impressive.

I've been running Purolator paper filters. Think I'll stop and get the AC Delco from the Cheby dealer for my three cylinder commute-O-bucket.
