I have a chance to get a great running motor from an 83/84 dodge pick-up. It has electronic spark control, is this lean burn?? Hydraulic cam?? Should I just avoid it? It really would be ashame, it's a low milage great running motor. What do you guys think? |

Yes, Yes.These are not reasons to avoid the motor, lean burn and hydraulic cam are easily replaced with their standard counterparts if you require. If you are living in a state which requires that you keep the lean burn, you might not be really happy with the performance options/ upgrades that you can do to the truck. (none) If you are just using the block as a replacement for an older worn out slant six powered car, you're good. |

The Hydro cam motors are perfect for daily drivers. Even if they are a little "flat" from the factory. |

O.k, just to clarify.. I also have a great running early 70's slant ( just a small hole in the block, LOL). The top end and head are fine. I can take the hydraulic block, but, add the head, cam/valvetrane, intake, from the early 70's motor, correct? That would allow me to get rid of the lean burn and upgrade to a better solid cam, correct? |

Sounds right, you'll also need to swap lifters, but you get the idea. Crankshafts won't swap, but the whole block will and all the cams are physically interchangeable. (in my limited understanding and experience) |
