I just bought a 66 Dart, and it dies from what seems to be a lack of fuel flow. Some one mentioned it might have to do with the fuel tank having sediment in it. Would that be the cause of the problem? Also, when the car does get going and drives for a little bit a popping noise comes from under the hood..any idea what that would be?

Thanks for the help in advance!

Do you have an in line fuel filter? Could be stopped up, or have some water in it. Probably the easiest, and cheapest thing to check.

Old flex hoses can fall apart inside and block the flow - if they're 40 years old it is time to replace them. I use 5/16" fuel inj. hose (3R509 ?) rather than the carb. (3R503 ?) line, as I've heard reports that some of the new EPA-mandated additives attack the older hose. Also, a tiny rust hole in the hardline between the tank and the pump can let air get sucked in rather than fuel and give probems.

Thanks a lot for the advice.

As far as the fuel filter, it has been changed recently..I will try to change the hoses out.

Does your car die when it's hot or cold or just anytime? If when hot could be vapor lock. Also, my Duster's tank was in such bad shape, a new filter only lasted 4 days.

That sounds familiar...............

I plumbed in a oil filter (with remote oil filter adaptors) as a large capacity filter to fix that problem...............

The first one lasted about a month (as compared to a day for a normal size filter)

The second one about 3 months, but it failed because I took it off once and crinked the can, and it started to leak...........

The third one has been on there about 2 years...........
