installed my carter bbd with the stovebolt adapter and a fresh reman. carb. after i took the 1945 off i seemed to have lost torque. the mixture is about right so is there any reason on loss of this or what. everything else is smoother. btw its on a 225

Seems to me we toldjya that using an adaptor to put a 2bbl in place of a 1bbl was not a wise move.

Performance tips:

instead of getting any other setup, here's the first steps:

Get a metal geinder and cut off all the firewall below the gas pedal. Then by stomping on it further into the engine bay it will go faster!!! while youre at it, cut off also the metal behind the brake pedal, you'll need extra braking power if you're gonna be really fast.

Then, next step would be a huge lokar like chinese knockoff gas pedal and a 1300 CFM carb, with free flow K&N air filter (Or a used ladies sock, wich may allow more air into the carb and will filtrate better than the K&N)

After that, the coffee can muffler is a must (ougtta be type R)

Seriously... get the right manifold. If you want to fabricate, then cut open the top of the plenum on your one-barrel manifold, make a flange for your two-barrel and weld it to your existing manifold thereby making your own two-barrel manifold. The adapter is not an example of fabrication, it's an example of hopeless crapola.

Sorry buddy we couldn't help orselves.
The bog has to be dued to the 2bbl carbs seted up ontop a much more restrictive 1 bbl manifold. even thru the years some 2 bbl manis don't have the same runners' sizing than the 1 bbl.

What you have to do is get a 2 bl manifold that matches your carter.

We are being serious: We told you the 2bbl to 1bbl adaptor wasn't the right way to do it. No fabrication will get around that fact.

Yep: Put on a proper 2bbl intake.

This will solve your linkage problems, too.

Great way to help guys.

I doubt that the adapter itself is causing the preceived lost of torque. Many people have used those adapters with good results. What color are the plugs? Is the color even across all of the plugs?

I suspect the adapter has increased the plenum area and this has caused a mixture problem with a marginal carb. You may need to adjust the metering rods until your plugs are an even tan. You may also need to adjust the accelerator pump to give a longer shot of gas.

Intermittent vaccuum leak at the base of the adaptor when the maniofld gets hot?

Did you use a gasket when you mated it up or did you go the full distance and use a nice smear of goop all the way around the hole?
