Hi there! Today, I closely inspected a 1969 Barracuda Formula S, the car was assembled in Schinznach, Switzerland. VIN BH29N98177358 (anyone who can decode this wins a prize! Swiss made cars had different vins). The car is in pretty good condition, rust at the rear wheel wells, rear quarters, trunk floor. That seems to be all body rust. Red interior is pretty good, front seats are not original. Car drives very good, no rattle or irritating noises. Has passed the strict german TUV tech inspection two years ago. The owner wants 4800 Euro (around 5800US$) for it, which is by all I know a good price. Haven´t seen a 69 FS close to that price for the last 5 years. What do you think about this? Thanks Chris |

VIN BH29N98177358 decodes as follows: Description Interpretation Code Model: Plymouth Barracuda B Price Class: High H Body Type: 2 door sports hardtop 29 Engine: Unknown. (Code was N) N Year: 1969 9 Assembly Plant: Export 8 Sequence Number: 177358 177358 Bill told me: In 1969 the assembly plants were letters, not numbers. I suspect that "8" should be "B", for Hamtramck. As well, the sequential production number, 177358, means it is the 77,358th car off the line, and the Wyoming plant never built more than 30,000 cars in a year. However, the Hamtramck plant did. The export plant, on Wyoming Avenue in Detroit, was number "8" from 1960 though 1967 and then "P" from 1969 until the plant closed in the late 1970's. Might the engine letter "N" be "M", for Special Order V8? Is there a data tag under the hood? Might get more info from that, as well. Bill.. |

I bougth the car today. Sorry for not getting back here earlier. I was too busy. THIS BARRACUDA RUNS LIKE WOOOOOOW!! I´m so happy I bougth it. Drove it from Hamburg to Dortmund, 220 miles. I just loved to go 40mph in a speed zone and when there´s no speed limit again - BOOOOOOOOM !!! I have never been so fast up to 110 in any car I drove yet. I dind´t beat it all the way, of course. But now and then I could not resist... I have a limited number plate for 5 days and I´m gonna spent every minute driving this car. I´ll post pictures soon. Gotta go outside now ya know Chris |

Well I pulled the engine yesterday because it failed the compression test on cyl. #5. And what did I pull out of there? A stock 318 with 340 intake, exhaust, carb and airfilter. Although it ran pretty good for only a 318... Nice view of intake/exhaust ports to head mismatch when I diassembled the engine. Now I´m in need of a good smallblock forum, can anyone recommend one? Also I need some information about how to identify a formula s. Where can I ask this kind of questions? Thanks in advance, Chris |
