Post subject:  RV17YC Spark Plug?

With a modified engine (9.5:1 compression, 390 cfm carb) do I need to go to a colder plug? The ones that are in it are Chanpion RV17YC. Should I need a RV15YC or something else. This is a daily driver, not a race car.

Thanks in advance,

...that's WAY too hot. Of course what works best for you may be different than what works for someone else, you just have to play around a bit. RV12YC ould be a good start. I've got 12's in the 2,3,4,5 holes and 14's in the 1,6 on the SDsix Duster (well, the "Accel" equivalent actually). I run an N12Y (RN12YC) or the Mopar equivalent in my bone stock Kermit ('72 Valiant). Then "N" because it is the older style "plug tube" head, of course.

Is there an advantage to running the 14's on the #1 and #6 cylinders??

In my case, those two tend to run a little richer than the rest (during warmup, mostly), so I run hotter plugs in those holes to avoid fouling. I think the outboard plugs tend to shed heat a bit better than the other four on an inline six, too.
