I would like to ask Dennis Weaver about post on May 2005: Replaced sector shaft seal on his car. Is sector shaft seal same as pitman arm lower seal? The power steering box at bottom where shaft comes out and joins to pitman arm is leaking. after removing pitman arm did you use a cotter pin puller (curved hook tool) to pull the seal out? or something else. It's been such a long time since I've done that, I forgot what worked best. Any kind of device like that would be a good candidate. I think maybe I used an old (small) screwdriver and just levered it out alongside the shaft.puller (curved hook tool) to pull the seal out? or something else. Thanks, You're welcome, any time. D/W |

The great factory tip for removing the sector shaft seal on a PS car (not in the Chiltons), was to remove the retainer, put a bucket under the shaft, then start the car and turn the wheel all the way to the left (maybe right, it's been awhile) and the pressure would blow the seal out. I tried that trick and it worked great. Alternatively, there's a funny special giant-easyout-like tool for the job, but I don't know where you'd find one. |

Thanks for the tip. I will try that. I think mactools or matco made that tool i saw it on ebay. |
