Ok I have installed the 318 BBD on the 74 Scamp and got a slant stove choke from a 2 bbl Aspen. I don't understand the article about cutting off the lever and remounting it. Can someone explain this better? The article is inadequate IMHO. I would like to see a picture or better description. Also does the bi-metallic coil expand with heat or contract with heat. Just curious. Makes a difference with respect to the lever motion.

Thanks

BTW this Carter real woke up the ol' Scamp. Much better performance by seat of the pants feel. Nice idle and great throttle response. Also no more dieseling.

Ok I think I understand the article. But it recommends cutting off the eylet and re-attaching it. I assume by welding? I'm thinking of using the existing eyelet to attach another small plate with another hole for the choke rod to pull on. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Cutting and re-welding? H'm. No, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't do it that way.

There are differences between \6 and V8 BBDs, and one of them is the choke lever configuration. I've made the V8 carbs work with the \6 choke thermostats by making a new choke pushrod (to run from the choke thermostat up to the carb's choke lever) out of 1/8" brass rod.

Thanks Dan. I reviewed the Super Six conversion article and the problem is the eyelet hole that the lever fits into is about 90 degrees counterclockwise from the ideal position on the 318 BBD. I have the correct choke for the 2 bbl and I can get it hooked up but the angle causes the choke to not open fully and if I manually open the choke it sticks open due to the rod position. Look at the article. Anyways I think I can make a mod and make it work.

Thanks.

Ok I made a small plate about 1 inch long with two holes in it. Bolted it to the existing hole using a small screw nut and lockwasher. Used the other hole for the choke rod and keeper clip. I'll try to post a picture soon. It worked like a champ. Pulled that choke wide open as it heated up. :D

When i modified the choke form a V-8 318 BBD to work with the stock slant six chokle linkage I used JB weld to glue it back together. You can see the gobs of JB weld in the pictures.
