Ive got a 71 Plymouth Duster and recently someone broke into it and tried stealing it. They broke off the cover thats behind the gear readout cover. I went to a junk yard and found one off a Valiant to replace the broken one. So I got my wheel off and the next thing to do is take off the cover that has the gear readout on it. No matter how hard I tug, I cant seem to get it off or even pop the bearing out. Does anyone have any experience in taking the steering column apart? Id really like to be able to replace the broken cover to keep my car looking nice. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

steering column has 2 seeger rings (don't know if you call those kinda fasteners the same in english... and maybe I'm misspelling) one before the bearing and one after. In addition you have to remove the turn signal switch and then there's 2 nuts that holds everything in place. Take out that nuts (3/8??? 7/16 more likely) and you'll be able to pull the frontmost part. Then you have to remove the shifter and the rearmost piece has one allen screw holding it in place, is near the spring that holds the shifter against the shifting pattern restrictive plate (I don't know how you name that in english neither, is a piece of metal that prevents you from shifting into R or downshifting into 2nd if you don't mean to...)
