Is this a timing problem? I set the #1 cyl to tdc(approx) and pulled the distributer and lined the rotor with #1 cap tower, the engine fired right up, and ran until I turned off the ignition, then the blowback. Is it 180 deg out, or just a tooth or two on the distributer? Help. Also, there was slight oil seepage from the head gasket on the plug side, should I worry about this?

Thats the problem with my slant 6, it runs on after switching off the ignition becauseof hotspots on the pistons due to carbon build up!!! Higher octane and some engine cleaner should do it!!!

Without more detail, I can only guess. I had a similar problem with overrun after longer drives, 15min+. I added a spacer to the carb to shield it from the engine heat. It more or less fixed the problem, but probably not the way I intended. When I went to remove the carb, I noticed the entire thing was loose. I could remove the nuts from the studs by hand. I figure I had a vacuum leak from there. To be honest, I don't know if I solved my problem by adding a heat shield or plugging a leak.
