 Post subject: plastic pieces in engine

i installed my harmonic balancer on my slant this weekend by tapping it on with a plastic hammer and a pice of wood. when i looked in the oil pan there where several tiny pieces of plastic that where not there before the install. i asuume i banged them loose from somwhere. any ideas?

Take a careful look at your distributor drive gear. Also, did/do you have the cam timing sprocket that has the plastic teeth?

the distributor was not in the motor at the time. is the cam timing sprocket hard to replace?
