Post subject:  Offy 4bbl manifold

I've got a possible line on an Offy 4bbl manifold cheap. I've just been perusing the archives looking for info but I'm still not sure if there is any benefit to it other that the "Wow!" factor when the hood is open. I know the stock motor will never be able to use it but I do have plans to cam it and open up the exhaust. I see a lot of back and forth about the Holley 390 but I don't find much about the Edelbrock 500 as an alternative. They are comparable in price and both have an electric choke. What about linkage, both throttle and transmission kickdown? Other issues? Is it even worth doing?

HELL YES IT'S WORTH DOING!!!

When I put mine on my 71 Demon (185K miles at the time) I picked up 1.5 seconds and 7 mph in the 1/4 mile. The rest of the car was dead stock.
It originally ran 18.76 at 73 and after the intake change it went 17.25 at 80 the first time out.

I used a Holley 0-2818 which is a 600 cfm job for an early Corvette. Played with the jetting a little (that carb also came with a rear metering block with screw in jets which was helpful) and used a stiffer (but not the stiffest) spring for the secondaries. Overall it ran great, idled well and got decent mileage cruising.

After you get the intake, it's time for the Hooker header - talk about WOW factor!

Well that one didn't work out but I know of a couple more that I'm going to check on. Either headers or "Dutra Duals" if they're still available are likely in the future as well.
