Weird problem with my 66 225. The acr is a 66 dart with a 4spd and od. 1 barrel carb stock motor. The car surges when running uphill only. on flat, downhill and slight inclines its fine. This happens no matter how full the tank is. It has a new sending unit with sock put in after the start of the problem.

All speeds or only at certain rpms. Remember with a manual sometimes you do have to downshift. Although I would suspect 3.55 gear should able to overcome the low rpm lug factor.

Probably a carburetor problem; do you have a Carter BBS or Holley 1920?

Coils do wear out, go bad, and sometimes leak oil. In the latter case, it may arc internally when the orientation changes and the transformer oil exposes a weak spot.

The carb is a 1920. The coil is brand new. Although that doesn't always mean ists good nowadays

If ya have a points distributor, check the dwell, I had a similar problem, and a new set of points and condensor cured it...mine would surge when it was in a hard pull...just a suggestion....

Certainly check the ignition components others have mentioned here—the coil is not likely to be the problem—but this sounds to me like a problem with the power ("economizer") valve in your Holley 1920. A rebuild kit and a good, thorough cleaning (with special attention to the metering block) may fix it...or may not.
