I had a V8 when I was a kid.
I never got it completely together.
Too bad this isn't a working gas engine.

That's cute as a bugs ear, but I've got many better places to put $255.00. LOL.

Yep....neat things to have. I got lucky awhile back and found one at a local auction. Cost me $75, but I knew they were going for more on the Bay.

There's also a clear plastic one, vintage 1964. I've seen them pop up on Ebay about twice in the last five years. Quite rare.

For $255 you can get the real thing and then some. Now that'd be cool to have on an engine stand in your living room.

Those are cool. I'd love to see Revell reissue those (I'm a model car nut as well as a full scale slant sixer). Supposedly the molds still exist, but would need repair to be run again. Sure would be great to be able to buy one of those off the shelf for twenty bucks or so at any hobby shop!

There is one of those, in box, about 10 feet from this desk as I type. I bought it shortly after eBay opened for business. Paid too much for it!

I opened one of the plastic bags inside the box about five years ago, for Bill Weertman to sign the valve cover for me. (He was Chrysler's head engine engineer for many years, had a major part in the design and development of the slant-6, and wrote the "How car engines work" book that comes with the model kit and also bears his picture). He laughed out loud when I pulled the model out of my car to show him. He remembered it well, said he had one and was amazed at how big and involved a task it was to put it together. Lots of filing, fettling, whittling, etc. and TONS of tiny parts. This probably helps explain why there are so many partially-built examples going across eBay.

There were two different versions of this kit: The 1961-mid-'62 version is as pictured here. It is made out of red, silver and black plastic. The 1963-'64 version GTS225 mentions, which is indeed much scarcer, is a "visible" type engine with clear plastic engine block, valve cover etc.
Both versions are motorised; the motor resides in the bellhousing and takes two C-type batteries.

I don't imagine I'll get round to building this kit for many, many years. Maybe when I retire.
