i have a 1975 dart, 225. removed the ac, no fancy stereo. the threaded hole in the alternator that receives the bolt that mounts the alt. to the mounting bracket is stripped. each time i have to move the alt. there is less and less thread to hold that bolt in. a helicoil kit is i think around $25. would i be better off just replacing the alternator? i'd hate to fix the bolt and then have her die a few months later. also, want to make sure if i replace the alternator i get the right brand/type etc. ssdan, i will read my petersons to better understand alternators and charging systems, but there is no substitute for quality advice on a specific question. (he's always reminding me to do my homework) [just checked and autozone (please save the autogroan comments, these stores are a like tool, if you use them right, they serve you. if you don't, you're get what you get) has a duralast reman for $37 one year warranty and another brand $55 with a lifetime warranty. does their parts catalogue know enough to give me what i need? 65 amps is sufficient, correct?] |
