Ok, here's the deal; I'm in the market for a cam, and I haven't really been finding what I want. I'd like to stay away from custom grinds because they are more expensive, and the places I've called don't seem too confident (or competent), when it comes to slants. I'm going with oversized valves (1.44/1.70), 340 valve springs, and I am porting and polishing the heads. I'm planning on around 9.5:1 compression, but that's still open to debate (clifford suggestion just milling .100, which he said should be 9.75:1). Solid lifters and 87 octane are a must. It's going in a D150 that will be street driven, but I'd really like some fun and the "THAT'S A SIX?!?" exclamation when I want it.

Looking at stock offerings, the comp cams 264S just seems a little anemic (264 duration, .440 lift). Erson's E470621 (270 duration, .465 lift) seems to be somewhere near what I want. The only other options I'm really finding come from Clifford. They have 260 and 268 duration cams w/ .477 lift, and the 268 really seems to fit the ticket. Does anyone have experience with the Clifford or Erson cams (beyond cliffords crappy customer service)? It's probably worth noting that the clifford cams cost twice what the erson does.

I think your cam duration range is too mild for your target compression ratio and pump gas spec.
I am running 9.25:1 , big valves Comp 264s and 87 gas and I wish I had more cam.

I have a schneider 264 /224@0.050/ 480 lift cam and to me it's still a mild cam

I have looked at erson cams also they seem to have good prices

I'd say that 280 deg 0.465" Erson is a good choice (ERS-E470302). As Sandy said, you could have problems with 87 octane and 9.5 with that cam. I'd say you can do it, but will have to be careful about timing curve and carburetion.
