Post subject:  First /6 Build in '78 Volare

I'm getting ready to overhaul a '78 Super-Six and figured I'd do a few things to help the performance while I have it taken apart. Other than a basic rebuild, this is what I plan to add performance:

Install Comp 252S or 264S camshaft

Increase compression to 9.0 - 9.25/1

Polish ports in head and clean up intake runners

To get the compression where I'd like it, I figured I'd have .010" (clean-up cut) removed from the deck of the block and the head milled .060". I'm thinking I'll use the Silvolite 1250 pistons which have a compression height of 1.74". I cannot find what the specification of the stock piston is, but I'm hoping this is the stock height so my calculations are correct. Does anybody have experience with this piston??? Is it the stock compression height???

Also, will the stock Super-Six manifolding limit the benefit from either of these camshafts??? Any recommendations (either 252 or 264) with the combo I've described. Will I need to install more gear - I think the car is running 3.08's, but I'm not sure??

I plan on tuning the car (spark) with 89 octane gas. Will probably run Premium most of the time, but do not want to HAVE to.

Any ideas where the power level will be at??? I know the Volare is heavier than the other cars I've had with Slant Sixes, and this one is pretty tired right now - but I expected a little more out of the 2BBL setup. Hopefully this combo will pull the car around a little better.

Thanks......
