Hi all,

This is a follow on to my previous post. The same guy I am talking to about the turbo exhaust manifolds is willing to mod up intakes for fuel injection, and build a fuel rail. You supply injectors ( bosch pattern), a throttle body ( jeep 4.0? Mustang 5.0?) and the computer ( megasquirt?).

Again, details:

1. You supply an aluminum one or two barrel stock intake as a core.

2. It is drilled for bosch style injectors (one of two common patterns?)

3. It is machined for a modern throttle body. ( we need to check and see what fits/flows good. I am not suggesting that we stick a Geo Metro 10mm throttle body on there, but we probably need to experiment a bit)

4. You get a fuel rail for the right spacing, with provisions for a pressure regulator, return, etc.

Again, interested? This could be combined as a package deal with the turbo manifold. Depending on interest, he may be able to save us a bit of money on a package deal.

Thanks,

Greg

Here again, as with the exhaust manifolds, need a ballpark figure on price.

Just a suggestion - leave the intake seperate from the exhaust interms of package deals because there are some that already invested in efi that don't have turbo, and some that may have a turbo without efi.

I think you may have a hard time costwise if you start with stock manifolds. For $200 give or take you can get a clifford manifold with bosses arleady on it drilled out including fuel rail with tiedowns. A simple plate adapter will allow you to mount any modern mpfi throttle body directly to manifold. Or if you want to stick to a stock manifold, for a little less money you can have a shop just do the bung son a stock manifold and figure out the throttle body mounting yourself.

To machine a manifold to bolt on a modern throttle body directly, (if its even possible since plenum room is limited), drill manifold and weld in bungs, will get costly, even with a group buy.

And someone needs to check with clifford - I recently bought one of their manifolds with the bungs already drilled out for mpfi for the same price as one without bungs drilled, and fuel rail was a mere $20 extra. They did a limited run of these so it may not be a stocked item.

Working on pricing. We are trying to gauge interest, and determine if this is a one off for me, or there are others interested as well.

Pierre, your point is spot on. That is why I have these proposals as separate posts.

Dan, are you thinking about the injecting the lancer? If you do, I gotta see it in person! that would be really cool!

Well, one question I have: Is the guy who'd be doing the manifold work the same guy who owns the fuel economy tips website you referred to? If so, I would have serious problems paying out any money to someone with such an obvious inability to discern science from hocus-pocus handwaving and chicken salad from chicken shìt. Most of the stuff on his site is pure, unadulterated horsepucky. The ultra-high-MPG carburetors, the specially-drilled spark plugs that "act like radar dishes", etc. And that "groove the cylinder head" idea...the guy has had all those engines through his shop and claims all these magical improvements due to his special cylinder head grooves, but he's also changing camshafts, induction systems, compression, ignition, etc. all at the same time. The one engine he does provide test data for (a 9 cu. in. Briggs and Stratton) lost horsepower and torque.

Well, I'm always thinking about all kinds of expensive and involved projects! ;-)

Dan, not the same guy. I talked to him, and he was entirely reasonable, and owns slants himself.

Put me down as interested in both. It depends on the cost.

I was planning on the Clifford manifold, though, for my MPFI conversion.

It's the turbo that interests me the most. What design does he propose for that?

He used a 2.2 turbo, since they are common/cheap. He is willing to put on other flanges, though. I suspect that you would want to work with him, to ensure that you have enough clearance on all the dimensions, if you want to put some really big turbo in there.

OK, that ramps-down my skepticism level quite a bit. I would like to see larger versions of the photos in his story. Wonder if he'd be interested in picking up a slantsix.org username and coming in for a discussion of his project...?

From Mike. I will see if I can invite him to our group.

-Intake modified for EFI (as per that article you sent me, I like that), including fuel rail and plate to adapt throttle body of choice, $130 + manifold for core (actual manifold will be modified) and throttle body to be used. I need the throttle body to check for clearance issues as well as opening and bolt spacing measurements. If it is to be used on a turbo application, I'll mill away the heat riser material for additional clearance for an additional $20. ($150 total).

I gave up on owning older Mopars when I could no longer afford/find parts. I'm now a Turbo Dodge man (stuff is just as plentiful and cheap on these as they were on the L-6 Dusters a decade ago).

For the price, the Slanter's can't go wrong. I guarantee my work, if any problems (other than the manifold cracking unless they want to shell out an additional $35 to have it magnafluxed) arise, I'll fix, replace, or refund.

Mike

$130 is a great price

Other things to keep in mind - you'd need to find a throttle body with same or smaller opening as the manifold you want to use because he said hes making an adapter plate. Different then machineing the manifold itself....

Also you'll have to come up with your own solution for the linkage.

I honestly wouldn't put any effort into modding a 1bbl intake if your going to use a same or smaller throttle body as a 1920. You can use your original carb even and convert it to act as a throttle body (easy solution to air cleaners/linkage as well). Start with a supersix intake at a minimum. With a supersix intake, rumor has it you can directly bolt on the throttle body used on certain year tbi dodge trucks (but you'll only be using it as an air gate since this is mpfi anyway)

Okay, so far, I have as interested:

Walter Lee Jackson
Dan S.
Greg (myself)

Any others? If you are really interested, please reply back here, and I will start the coordination between all parties.

Thanks,

Greg

I would be interested in sending over an Offy 4bbl intake to have injector bungs put in and a fuel rail made. I don't need a TB plate though. $100-110 for this?? Package deal with the exh man I'm ordering?

Thanks,

Lou

Hi all,

Contact info

Mike Holler

email:
mpgchris<at>yahoo.com

Change the <at> to @. I am trying to save him from a bunch of spam.

If you want his number, PM me, and I will give to you there.

Here are his instructions

Typically I inspect parts (usually heads where there is a bunch of stuff to go bad) and let the customer know if there are any "over-and-above" issues, then I get 50%. After work is completed I email pics and ballance is paid. Then part(s) is (are) shipped.

I will need contact info for everybody so I can ask particulars if need be.
