Finally got around to adjusting the valves (with 16000 miles I didn't think they'd be that far off) and car runs much better..... Before: Slightly rough idle when fully warmed up (I noticed, nobody else seemed to) Slight low throttle surge until warmed up After: Idle smooth no surge peppier All the intakes were loose; amount off varied from .001 to .006 ....1......2.......3......4.......5......6 (.001, .006, .006, .004, .006, .003) or (.011, .016, .016, .014, .016, .013) Most of the exhausts were loose; amount off varied from -.007(tight) to .006 ....1......2.......3......4.......5......6 (.002, .006, .006, .005, .001, -.007) or (.022, .026, .026, .025, .021, .013) Other than cyl 6, (which I think was a goof by someone since intake and exhaust are the same), valve recession doesn't seem to be a problem |

So, did you adjust to stock specs, or tighten them up some? I tightened up my intake to .009" and exhaust to .018". Made a big difference according to my "seat of the pants dyno". |

StockI can see the peppy part, as now my cam has slightly longer duration. But I don't get the surge or roughness (not complaining), as I thought 'tight' valves would cause roughness, and ignition timing & lean carb surge. As an aside, does anyone know the relationship between duration and lash? How much more duration for a given decrease in lash. |

Eric, everything is good with the .09 .18 so far? If so I might try that this spring when I change carbs. I just don't want to do anything to put stress on the valves. I have to remember this car is supposed to last long more than its supposed to drive fast. |
